The GKI analytical center reported that last year food prices in Hungary were higher than in Poland and Romania, but salaries did not keep up with their growth. According to experts, only Bulgarians have a lower standard of living than Hungarians in the European Union.

According to GKI, the increase in prices for Hungary does not correspond to catching up with Hungarian salaries. Food prices were close to 90% last year. the EU average, which is much higher than, for example, in Poland or in the Romaniaalbeit lower than at Slovakia or in Austria.

– While in 2010 Romania was far behind us, in 2022 it overtook Hungary in terms of earnings, and this year quite spectacularly. The same applies to Poles, said GKI general director Laszlo Molnar, quoted by the RTL portal.

Inflation in Hungary

In Hungary, it has been the highest for over half a year inflation in the EU, which has started to decline slightly since January. According to the last data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH) in July it amounted to 17.6 percent, falling below 20 percent for the first time in a year.
