Hungary. The Ministry of Defense criticizes the political commitment of the former chief of staff on the opposition side

Former chief of the staff of the Hungarian army of General Romulusz Ruszin-Szndi, dismissed in the spring of 2023 by the government of Viktor Orban, established cooperation with the opposition leader Peter Magyar.

Ruszin-Szndi performed on Saturday at the Magyar Congress in Budapest, where he openly talked about the problems of the Hungarian army. He said, among other things, that Hungary should stay away from the Russian-Ukrainian war, because “the fight on any of the parties is stupid.”

“The appearance and speech of the former Chief of the General Staff at a party event can lead to divisions and uncertainty among the staff of the Hungarian armed forces, weaken the army's morale and undermine faith in the military oath made to defend the homeland” – wrote the ministry in a communication quoted by Hungarian media. .

They signed it “former commanders and heads of the staff of the Hungarian armed forces”, although they were not mentioned by name. In response to the request of the Telex Resort, “the statement was made on behalf of all commanders and bosses of the Hungarian armed forces after the change of regime” in 1989.

“The” guilt “of the youngest in the history of the Chief of General Staff is only that he stood up for his country, freedom of Hungarian citizens and all former soldiers” – he reacted to the statement of the Ministry of Magyar.

Born in 1973, General Ruszin-Szndi was appointed commander of the Hungarian army in 2021. He was the youngest person who performed this function.

He was dismissed at the end of April 2023 by the then President of Hungary Katalin Novak at the request of the Minister of Defense Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky. General Gabor Borondi, previously the head of the Hungarian Armed Forces in Brussels, was appointed in his place.

Shortly after taking up the position, Borondi was in the center of diplomatic scandal, when he defined Germany's aggression against Poland in 1939, “local war”, which turned into world conflict because there was no peace conversation.
