Hurricane Tammy hits the Caribbean. Flash floods are possible

Hurricane Tammy is passing through the islands of the eastern Caribbean. The services warn of strong winds and heavy rainfall, which may cause flooding, throughout the weekend.

Tammy is a Category 1 hurricane on a five-point ascending scale. On Saturday evening, Polish time, it was located 40 kilometers north-east of Guadeloupe and 80 km south-east of Antigua and Barbuda. The element had winds of 140 kilometers per hour.

Reuters reported heavy rainfall and strong winds on parts of the Windward Islands, i.e. parts of the Lesser Antilles. The US National Hurricane Center reported that heavy rainfall and, as a result, flash flooding are possible in most of the archipelago. In some places, up to 150 liters of water may fall per square meter.

Difficult weather conditions are expected to persist throughout the weekend. Tammy is moving north at 13 km/h.

Before the hurricane hit, the authorities appealed to residents to take shelter.
