Smog enveloped New Delhi, the capital of India, on Saturday. It caused visibility to be severely limited. Residents complained of breathing difficulties. The air quality was well above normal.
A thick layer hung over New Delhi on Saturday morning smogwhich limited visibility. It also significantly disrupted road traffic. The air quality index according to the methodology of IQAir, a Swiss air monitoring group, was 410 at 10.30 local time. This value means a “dangerous” concentration of pollutants in the air.
– I feel a burning sensation in my eyes and I keep coughing, I'm short of breath. It has worsened over the last two or three days, Babbudin, a resident of the Indian capital, told Reuters.
Smog in India
Smog appears in the New Delhi area every autumn and winter. Cold, still air then hangs over the capital, trapping emissions from cars and houses as well as dust from burning grass on nearby farms.
– The New Delhi government should do something to encourage people to use public transport and electric vehicles more often. Only then can we make some progress. Otherwise, we will suffer every year, said Rohit, a resident of the Indian capital.
