“I serve the nation.” A famous Ukrainian writer joined the army

Serhiy Zhadan is one of the most famous Ukrainian writers. On Thursday, the 49-year-old writer announced that he had joined the National Guard of Ukraine.

“I joined the ranks of the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine 'Khartija'. I am undergoing training. I serve the Ukrainian people,” Serhiy Zhadan said in a post on social networks on Thursday.

Zhadan, 49, lives in Kharkov and is a poet, writer, singer, volunteer and activist. Many of his works have been translated into Polish. He is the winner of many literary awards, also in Poland. His volumes of poems have been published in Polish: “History of culture at the beginning of the century”, “Drohobycz”, “Etiopia” and “Antena”, as well as seven novels: “Big Mac”, “Depeche Mode”, “Anarchy in the UKR”, “Anthem of a Democratic Party”. youth”, “Voroshilovgrad”, “Mesopotamia” and “Internat”.

When Zhadan presented his latest volume “All Poems” in Kiev at the end of May, huge queues formed in front of the capital's Palace of Sports. The presentation gathered eight thousand people.

Honored by the Ministry of Defense

At the end of November 2022, Zhadan received the medal of the Ministry of Defense “For assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine”.

The Ukraińska Pravda portal recalled that reports about Zhadan's mobilization into the ranks of the National Guard appeared in March, but the writer did not confirm them at that time.
