Icy trails in the Beskids. Rescuers call for caution

Conditions on the trails in the Beskids are difficult – warns rescuers from the mountain volunteer ambulance. Icing is the greatest threat. The first degree of avalanche threat applies in the Babia Góra region.

In the morning thermometers in the mountains showed from -1 to -4 degrees Celsius. Despite the windless weather and good visibility, the conditions on the trails – due to icing – are difficult.

– Raczki and crayfish are mandatory if someone is going to the Babia Góra area, Pilska or generally in Beskids above 1000 m above sea level – said the rescuer of the Beskid GOPR group from the station in Szczyrk.

The perć of dormitories is closed, i.e. the yellow trail from the upper flat to Babia Góra. The first degree of avalanche threat applies in this area. It means that the liberation of avalanche is generally possible only with high additional load in a few places at very steep or extreme slopes.

Appeals for caution

Rescuers reminded that the route time, which is indicated on the maps, can now be extended. Tourists who go to a journey in the mountains must have warm clothing. Under current conditions, handles are necessary. Sticks can be useful. The phone should be charged and have the “rescue” application installed. Goprowers also appealed not to go on lonely hiking on the trails.

Ski conditions are good. The owners of the lifts use frosts and scratch routes – rescuers from the station in Szczyrk said.

Situation in the Tatra Mountains

Tourists staying in Tatraswhere the first degree of avalanche threat is also valid.

“Stable avalanche. Snow is very frozen, glacked in places. During the day at sunlight exhibitions, the top layer of the cover can be slightly wet. The overall amount of snow is definitely below the average for so far for the year” – told the Tatra Volunteer Ambulance Service.
