IMGW warns against strong winds and heavy rainfall. Strong gusts will be with us until the night hours. Alerts against heavy rainfall have also been issued for parts of southern Poland.

On Friday evening it started to blow heavily in Poland. Strong gusts of wind are associated with Cyclone Ulf, also called Otto.

Forecasters of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued first level warnings.

IMGW alerts of the first degree – strong wind

IMGW issued yellow alerts against strong wind for the following provinces:

Lubuskie (southern districts), where it will be dangerous until pm. 21 on Saturday;

Lower Silesiawhere alerts will be valid until 22 on Saturday;

Opole, where it will be dangerous until 22 on Saturday;

Silesianwhere the alarms will be in effect until 22 on Saturday;

Lesser Polandwhere the alarms will be in effect from 20-23 on Saturday.

Strong winds are forecast with an average speed of 40-45 km/h, gusts up to 75-85 km/h.

IMGW alerts of the first degree – heavy rainfall

IMGW also warns against heavy rainfall. Alerts against this threat are in force in the province. Silesianin the districts of Cieszyn, Bielsko, Bielsko-Biala and Żywiecki and Lower Silesia (in the counties: Lwówek, Jelenia GoraKarkonosze and Kłodzko).

Moderate rainfall is forecast. Forecast amount of precipitation from 25 to 35 liters of water per square meter.

Alerts will be valid until 2 on Sunday in Silesia and until 10 on Sunday in Lower Silesia.

What is the first degree IMGW meteorological warning

The first degree warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material damage and threat to health and life. Running a business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from activities in the area where the threat occurs, including delays caused by traffic obstructions, disruptions in the course of outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation. Caution recommended, the need to follow messages and weather developments.
