Freezing precipitation can pose a threat to roads – warns the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management. Black ice is possible. IMGW alerts were issued for nine voivodeships.

Forecasters of the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) issued weather warnings.

IMGW alerts of the first degree – freezing precipitation

IMGW alerts against freezing precipitation have been issued for the following voivodeships:

West Pomeranianfor counties: Gryfino, Pyrzyce and Myślibórz;

Lubuskiefor the northern part of the voivodship;

Greater Polandfor the central belt of poviats;

Kuyavian-Pomeranianoutside the northern poviats;

of Lodzexcept for southern poviats;

warmińsko-mazurskiein southern poviats;

Lublinoutside the south of the voivodship;

Podlaskieoutside the northern counties.

Light freezing rain or drizzle causing black ice is forecast.

In Western Pomerania, Lubuska Land, Łódź Land, Wielkopolska (except Piła and Chodzież counties), Mazowsze (southern counties) and Lubelszczyzna (except northern counties), the warnings will come into force at midnight and expire at 5 p.m. on Friday. In Podlasie and Warmia i Masuria Alerts will be in effect from 8am-3pm on Friday. In all other regions, the warnings will be active from 3am to 10am on Friday. According to forecasters, they may continue locally.

What is the first degree IMGW meteorological warning

The first degree warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material damage and threat to health and life. Running a business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from activities in the area where the threat occurs, including delays caused by traffic obstructions, disruptions in the course of outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation. Caution recommended, the need to follow messages and weather developments.
