The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns against strong winds with gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour. Second and first degree IMGW alerts have been issued for areas along the coast. In the southern counties of Lesser Poland and Podkarpacie, there are warnings against heavy frost.

As reported by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management on Twitter after 5, the strongest gusts of wind over the previous hour were recorded in Ustka – 72 km/h and in Łeba – 68 – km/h.

Due to the strong wind and biting frost, IMWM forecasters issued second and first degree meteorological warnings on a three-stage increasing scale.

IMGW alerts of the second degree – strong wind

Second degree warnings against strong winds are in force in the following provinces:

West Pomeranianin the district of Sławno;

Pomeranianin the counties: Słupsk, SlupskLębork, Wejherowo, Puck.

Strong winds with an average speed of up to 60 km/h, gusts up to 90 km/h, from the south-west and west are forecast.

The warnings will remain in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday.

IMGW alerts of the first degree – strong wind

Lower, first degree, strong wind warnings have been issued for the following provinces:

West Pomeranianfor counties: ŚwinoujścieKamień, Gryfice, Kołobrzeg, Białogard, Koszalin, Koszalin;

Pomeranianfor the poviats: Bytów, Kartuski, Gdynia, Sopot, Gdańsk, Gdańsk, Nowy Targ;

warmińsko-mazurskiefor poviats: Braniewo, Elbląg, Elbląg.

In these places, strong winds are expected with an average speed of 50-55 km/h, gusts up to 75-80 km/h, from the south-west and west.

In Western Pomerania, the warnings will expire at 12 on Saturday, and in Pomerania and Warmia and Mazury they will cease to apply two hours later.

IMGW alerts of the first degree – severe frost

Forecasters also warn of frost. First degree warnings are in force in the following provinces:

Lesser Polandin the following poviats: Tatrzański, Nowy Targ, Nowy Sącz and Gorlice;

Subcarpathianin the counties of Sanok, Lesko and Bieszczady.

In the region of Lesser Poland in the Tatra district, where the warnings will be valid until 10 on Saturday, the minimum temperature is forecast to range from -7 to -10 degrees Celsius, locally in depressions to -15 degrees Celsius. The wind is expected to blow there at an average speed of 5 to 15 km / h. In other counties of the province Lesser Poland, where the alerts will expire at 8 on Saturday, the minimum temperature is expected to be around -16 degrees Celsius in places, and the average wind speed is to reach 10-25 km / h.

In Podkarpacie, thermometers will show a minimum of about -15 degrees C in some places. The wind will blow at an average speed of 10 to 25 km / h. The warnings will end at 8 on Saturday.

What is a second degree weather warning

The second degree warning predicts the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena causing large material losses and a threat to health and life. Dangerous phenomena or the effects of their occurrence strongly limit the conduct of business. Expect disruptions in daily functioning. Great caution is recommended, the need to follow messages and the development of the weather situation. Follow all instructions issued by the emergency services in an emergency. Adapt your plans to weather conditions.

What is the first degree IMGW meteorological warning

The first degree warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material damage and threat to health and life. Running a business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from activities in the area where the threat occurs, including delays caused by traffic obstructions, disruptions in the course of outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation.
