IMWM issued meteorological warnings. At night, freezing precipitation, heavy snowfall and snowstorms will pose a threat in parts of the country. In some regions, Christmas Eve will bring snowmelt.

Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first and second degree meteorological warnings.

First degree IMWM alerts – heavy snowfall

Yellow alerts for heavy snowfall are in force in the voivodeship Lower Silesiain the following counties: Lwówek, Karkonosze, Jelenia GóraKamienna Góra and Kłodzko.

IMWM predicts snowfall there, causing the snow cover to increase by 10-15 centimeters. The warnings will be valid until 5 on Sunday.

First degree IMWM alerts – snowstorms and blizzards

Forecasters also warn against snowstorms and snowstorms. The lowest level alerts have been issued for the voivodeship Lower Silesiafor the following counties: Lwówek, Karkonosze, Jelenia Góra, Kamienna Góra and Kłodzko.

Blizzards and blizzards may cause snowfall and wind with an average speed of up to 30 km/h, with gusts of up to 55 km/h, from the west. The warnings will expire at 5 on Sunday.

IMWM alerts of the first degree – freezing precipitation

In parts of the country, roads will become slippery. First degree warnings were issued for the following voivodeships:

  • Lower Silesiafor the following counties: Zgorzelec, Bolesławiec, Lubań, Legnica, LegnicaZłotoryja, Jawor, Środa, Świdnica, WałbrzychDzierżoniów, Wrocław, WroclawOława, Strzeliński, Ząbkowice;
  • Opole provinceoutside the following poviats: Namysłów, Kluczbork, Olesno;
  • Silesianfor the southern and southwestern parts of the voivodeship.

Light freezing rain and/or drizzle causing black ice are forecast. In Lower Silesia, warnings will be valid from: 3-10 on Sunday, and in the Opole and Silesia regions from 5-12 on the same day.

IMWM alerts of the second degree – snowmelt

Second degree warnings due to snowmelt have been issued for the following voivodeships:

  • Silesianfor the following counties: Cieszyn, Bielsko, Bielsko-Biała, Żywiec;
  • Lesser Polandfor the counties of: Sucha, Nowy Targ, Tatra, Limanowa, Nowy Sącz, Nowy SączGorlice.

An increase in air temperature is expected, causing thaw and melting of the snow cover. The minimum temperature will range from 0 to 2 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature will range from 4 to 7 degrees Celsius. Total rainfall will reach 10 to 15 liters per square meter. The wind will blow at an average speed of 25 to 35 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 60 km/h, from the southwest.

In Silesia, the warnings will come into force at 15 on Sunday and will expire at 16 on Monday. In Małopolska, alerts will apply from 4 p.m. on Sunday until 16 the next day.

IMWM first level alerts – snowmelt

In the southern part of the province Lower Silesia Lower level warnings against snowmelt were also announced. They concern the following counties: Lubań, Lwówek, Karkonosze, Jelenia Góra, Kamienna Góra and Kłodzko.

As a result of the increase in temperature, the snow cover in the mountains and foothill areas is forecast to melt. Thermometers will show a minimum of 2 to 5 degrees C, and a maximum of 3 to 8 degrees C. Total rainfall will range from 5 to 10 l/sq m. The average wind speed will reach 20-35 km/h, with gusts up to 70 km/h, from the west.

Alerts will be valid from 7 on Sunday until 7 on Monday.

The second level warning predicts the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena causing significant material losses and a threat to health and life. Great caution is recommended, it is necessary to monitor the weather forecasts and developments. Follow all recommendations issued by emergency services in the event of an emergency.
