IMWM issued meteorological warnings. Freezing rain is falling in eastern Poland in the morning, and a layer of ice has appeared on the roads. It may also be dangerous in the south, where additional snow may still occur.
Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued first-degree warnings on a three-level, increasing scale.
IMWM warnings – heavy snowfall
First degree alerts against heavy snowfall have been issued for the following voivodeships:
- Lower Silesiafor the following counties: Lwówek, Karkonosze, Jelenia GóraKamienna Góra, Wałbrzych, WałbrzychKłodzko, Dzierżoniów, Ząbkowice. It will be dangerous until Tuesday at 8 a.m.;
- Lesser Polandfor the counties of: Sucha, Myślenice, Nowy Targ, Tatra, Limanowski, Nowy Sącz, Nowy SączGorlice. The rainfall is expected to last until 16 on Tuesday.
Snowfall is forecast there, with periods of moderate intensity, causing an increase in snow cover of 15 to 20 centimeters, especially in areas above 500 meters above sea level.
IMWM warnings – icing
Yellow warnings against icing apply in the following voivodeships:
- Silesianin the following counties: Zawiercie, Myszków, Częstochowa, Bielsko, Bielsko-BiałaŻywiec, Cieszyn;
- Lesser Polandin the following counties: Olkusz, Miechów, Sucha, Nowy Targ, Myślenice, Limanowski, Nowy Sącz, Nowy Sącz, Gorlice;
- Podkarpackiein the following counties: Jasło, Krosno, KrosnoBrzozowski, Sanok, Lesko, Bieszczady.
It is forecast that wet road surfaces and sidewalks will freeze after rainfall, sleet and wet snow, causing them to become icy. The minimum temperature will be around -1 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature at the ground will be around -3 degrees C. In most of the area, the negative temperature at the ground will remain during the day.
The alerts will expire on Tuesday at 9.
IMWM warnings – freezing precipitation
First degree warnings due to freezing precipitation apply to the following voivodeships:
- Podlasiecounties: Hajnówka, Bielsko, Siemiatycze;
- Masovian Voivodeshipsouth-eastern counties;
- Lublin Province;
- Łódźeastern counties;
- Świętokrzyskieoutside southern counties;
- Podkarpackiepoviats: Tarnobrzeg, Tarnobrzeg, Stalowa Wola, Niżański, Leżajsk, Przeworsk, Jarosław, Lubaczów.
Light freezing rain or drizzle causing black ice is forecast in places.
The warnings will expire at 8-12 on Tuesday.
