IMWM warnings. Thunderstorms on Sunday, May 19. Where will it be dangerous?

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management warns about storms almost throughout Poland. For parts of the Greater Poland and West Pomeranian Voivodeships, the warning level has been raised to second. The main threat during storms will be heavy rainfall.

Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM) issued first and second degree warnings.

IMWM second degree warnings – storms

Second degree warnings ahead storms are valid in the following voivodeships:

  • Greater Polandin the following counties: Złotów, Piła, Chodzież, Czarnków-Trzcianecki, Międzychód, Nowy Tomyśl, Szamotuły, Poznań;
  • West Pomeranian Voivodeshipin the following counties: Wałecki, Choszczno, Stargard, Drawsko.

Storms are forecast there, accompanied by very heavy rainfall in some places, up to 35 liters of water per square meter, locally up to 55 l/sq m, and wind gusts up to 75 kilometers per hour.

The warnings will be valid until 11 p.m. on Sunday.


IMWM first degree warnings – storms

Lower-level storm warnings have been issued for many areas. They are valid in the following voivodeships:

  • Podkarpackie;
  • Lesser Poland;
  • Świętokrzyskie;
  • Lublin Provincein western counties;
  • Masovian Voivodeshipoutside the northern and eastern parts of the region;
  • Łódź;
  • Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship;
  • Warmian-Masurian Voivodeshipin the western part of the region;
  • Pomeranian;
  • West Pomeranian Voivodeship;
  • Greater Polandin all counties except those covered by level 2 warnings;
  • Lubuskie;
  • Lower Silesia;
  • Opole province;
  • Silesian.

Thunderstorms with rainfall of up to 20-35 l/sq m are expected. and wind gusts up to 75 kilometers per hour. There will be hail locally.

The alerts will expire at 23 on Sunday.

What is the second degree IMWM meteorological warning?

The second level warning predicts the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena causing significant material losses and a threat to health and life. Dangerous phenomena or the effects of their occurrence significantly limit business activity. Expect disruptions to your daily functioning. Great caution is recommended, it is necessary to monitor the weather forecasts and developments. Follow all recommendations issued by emergency services in the event of an emergency. Adjust your plans to weather conditions.

The first level warning provides for conditions conducive to the occurrence of dangerous meteorological phenomena that may cause material losses and pose a threat to health and life. Conducting business in conditions of exposure to these factors is difficult and dangerous. Expect difficulties resulting from carrying out activities in the hazardous area, including delays caused by traffic disruptions, disruptions to outdoor events or the possibility of their cancellation.
