Independence Day. Celebrations in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

On Thursday at noon, the ceremonies in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier began. There will be a ceremonial guard briefing, the laying of wreaths by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the Speakers of the Sejm and Senate: Elżbieta Witek and Tomasz Grodzki, and government delegations are also planned.


During the ceremony, President Andrzej Duda will also lay a wreath in front of pl. Piłsudski with the statue of Marshal Józef Piłsudski.

A national salute of 21 cannonballs will be given and the national flag will be raised.

The plan of the ceremony includes a speech by the president.

President’s activities during the Independence Day

In the morning, President Andrzej Duda laid flowers in front of the monuments of the Fathers of Independence located on the Royal Route: Wincenty Witos, Ignacy Paderewski, Ignacy Daszyński, Roman Dmowski, Wojciech Korfanty and in front of the Józef Piłsudski monument at the Belweder Palace.

Then he laid a wreath at the grave of the last president of the Republic of Poland in exile, Ryszard Kaczorowski, and laid bouquets at the plaque commemorating the victims of the Smolensk catastrophe.

He also participated in the mass at the Temple of Divine Providence, presided over by the Metropolitan of Warsaw, Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz and the bishop Romuald Kamiński, the auxiliary bishop of the Tarnów diocese, and Rafał Markowski, the auxiliary bishop of the Warsaw Archdiocese concelebrated.
