Indian police, cited by the Reuters Agency, announced the arrest of three men in connection with the death of a 56-year-old Muslim man who was attacked by dozens of people on suspicion that he was transporting beef. He died on the way to the hospital.

Three men were arrested by police in eastern Bihar state India. This is related to the investigation into the circumstances of the death of a 56-year-old man. Naseem Qureshi died earlier this week on his way to hospital after being attacked by at least 20 people who suspected him of transporting beef. Its sale and consumption are restricted in some parts of the country by local authorities.

Ramchandra Tiwari, the chief of police in Rasulpur, where it all happened, told Reuters on Saturday that the detainees were charged with manslaughter.

Holy cows

Cows are considered sacred in Hinduism. There are frequent attacks against those accused of killing these animals for their meat or skin. The victims are mainly members of the Muslim minority or people from the lower rungs of the traditional Indian caste system.
