India flew towards the Sun. Indian mission to the Sun

A satellite to study the Sun was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center on Saturday, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) announced. The ship has a four-month journey ahead of it, during which it will cover 1.5 million kilometers.

On Saturday at 11.50 Indian time (8.20 in Poland) the Aditya-L1 satellite was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh. The spacecraft is to explore the Sun.

Solar research

Aditya in Hindi means “Sun”. The satellite will travel 1.5 million kilometers over four months, after which it will be placed in part space called the Lagrange point (L1), where objects tend to stay in place due to the balancing of gravitational forces, which reduces fuel consumption. Aditya-L1 will circle the Earth several times before heading towards L1. The satellite’s task will be to continuously provide clear images of the Sun. The spacecraft is equipped with seven modules for observing the outer layers of the Sun, the photosphere and the chromosphere, using, among others, electromagnetic field detectors. In particular, it will observe solar meteorology and collect data to better understand solar wind dynamics. – These seven modules will study the Sun as a star in all possible positions of the spectrum, which we have in the visible, ultraviolet and X-ray ranges. It’s as if we were to receive a black and white image, a color image and an image of the sun in high resolution, i.e. in 4K, so that we would not miss anything that is happening on the Sun, Manish Purohit, an ISRO scientist, told AP.

Several days ago, India successfully sent a space lander to the south pole of the Moon, a previously unexplored area. The placement of India’s Chandrayaan-3 mission on Earth’s natural satellite, the Vikram rover, made India the fourth country to successfully carry out such an operation, after the United States, the former Soviet Union and China. In 2014, India became the first Asian country to place a spacecraft in orbit around Mars. Delhi also intends to send a three-day crewed mission around Earth next year.
