New Delhi, the capital of India, was paralyzed on Thursday morning after heavy rains, with many vehicles stranded on flooded streets, worsening rush hour traffic problems.

On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, a zone of heavy rain passed over New Delhi, with water collecting on the streets where tens of thousands of cars, buses and scooters were to be driven just a few hours later.

Traffic jams all over the city

Flash floods brought traffic to a standstill in New Delhi. Residents said the water was knee-deep, making it difficult to drive to work or take children to school. The rain also flooded many underpasses.

The capital city police have been reporting in the media since morning about closed and impassable roads and traffic jams that have formed throughout the city. Officers have appealed to residents to plan their journeys sensibly and pay attention to police announcements.
