During Friday’s trial of the boss of one of the gangs in a court in Delhi, there was a shootout between the police and the bandits. Three people were killed, including the accused, and panic broke out in the room, the local police reported.
According to the Delhi police commissioner, the perpetrators of the shooting were two men dressed as lawyers. Their target was the accused. It is suspected that the killers belonged to a rival criminal group.
The policemen present in the courtroom immediately fired shots at the perpetrators who had died on the spot. The gang leader died a few hours later in the hospital.
The photos circulating on social media, taken in court, showed people hiding behind the seats.
Security measures in courts
A court employee in the Rohini neighborhood where the incident took place told Reuters that lawyers should receive special identification cards that would reduce the risk of impersonating them.
Sandżiv Nasiar, president of the Delhi Bar Association, announced that the lawyers will not be working on Saturday, because then the safety measures in the courts will be inspected.
