46 people survived a huge avalanche in India thanks to shelter in metal containers. The impact force was so huge that the containers were partially bent and torn. The rescue operation using six helicopters was completed after almost 60 hours.
The avalanche went down on Friday around Uttarakhand will stand in the north of India in 6 am in the pre -margin. After almost 60 hours of rescue operation, 46 out of 54 buried people were saved from the snow, eight people were killed.
They survived an avalanche in metal containers
As the rescue services donated, saving so many people overwhelmed for many hours were possible thanks to the metal containers in which workers lived. When an avalanche fell, it kidnapped all eight of the containers in the valley, pushing them several dozen meters away and covering with a thick layer of snow. The impact force was so great that the containers were bent, and some of them were also torn off. Metal, however, took on the impact strength, and then provided an oxygen supply, which most of the flooded people was enough until the rescuers arrived.
Most workers were able to “survive the destructive avalanche” thanks to these containers, the rescuers cited by the newspaper “The Indian Express”. – Metal shelters saved most of them. Thanks to them, they had enough oxygen to survive until we pulled them out (to the surface) – Indian media quotes one of the rescuers.
Some workers also managed to get out before the arrival of rescuers. One of the saved men, Satyaprakash Yadav, reported that the avalanche of his container broke into pieces, but he was not covered with a thick layer of snow. “We managed to get outside and reach the nearby military shelter, where we stayed for the next night,” he said.
The causes of the glacier crack
The avalanche went down after the glacier cracks in the vicinity of Badrinath Dham, a well -known place of pilgrimage to the Hindu temple. This road connects the villages of Ghastoli and Mana. The latter is the last inhabited place on the border of India and Tibet, located at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level. Most of the northern part of the state are covered by the high peaks of Himalayas and glaciers.
The army immediately began a large rescue operation with the participation of soldiers, rescue dogs and six helicopters. Heavy snowfall hindered the search.
