In Mumbai, India, a billboard larger than the surface of an Olympic swimming pool fell on buildings a few days ago, crushing people. 16 people died as a result of the tragic event, local authorities reported on Thursday.

Rescuers have ended the search for survivors trapped under a billboard that collapsed on buildings and a gas station in Mumbai on Monday, local authorities said on Thursday. The search and rescue operation lasted longer than previously reported.

– Medical care teams checked the condition of the injured and those undergoing treatment, said the head of local municipal services, Bhushan Gagrani, on Thursday.

New tally of victims of the disaster

16 people died in the accident and over a hundred were trapped under the rubble. Previously, 14 deaths were reported. According to local media, the billboard was larger than an Olympic swimming pool.

The Maharashtra chief minister said an audit of all hoardings in Mumbai has been ordered to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
