The prosecutor's office has filed an indictment with the District Court in Wodzisław Śląski against former PiS MP and former Deputy Minister of Energy Adam G. and five other individuals. It concerns corruption.

The indictment was filed by the Prosecutor of the Silesian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Katowice. As reported on Thursday by the spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, Przemysław Nowak, Adam G. was accused of accepting a financial benefit in the total amount of PLN 171,674 in 2019, while serving as the public secretary of state in the Ministry of Energy, from an entrepreneur from Katowice – Marek K. This benefit was transferred through another entrepreneur operating in the marketing and advertising industry – Jerzy U.

“The funds obtained were used in their entirety to finance the election campaign of the accused Adam G. and his wife – for the Sejm and Senate in 2019. This constituted a violation of the provisions of the Electoral Code regulating the principles of financing election campaigning,” the PK spokesman said.

The remaining defendants were charged with aiding and abetting the giving and receiving of a financial advantage by Adam G. They are also accused of issuing and using fictitious VAT invoices, which constituted a formal title to transfer a financial advantage.

Adam G. did not confess

“Adam G., questioned as a suspect, did not admit to committing the acts he was accused of. Both he and the other defendants provided extensive explanations,” Nowak said.

He added that at the request of the prosecutor, the District Court Katowice-Wschód in Katowice applied a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest against Adam G. This measure is still applied. The remaining defendants are being held free. The prosecutor applied financial guarantees and police supervision against them.

Adam G. is a former member of parliament and senator. PISIn July 2019, he became Secretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, as well as Government Plenipotentiary for the Restructuring of Hard Coal Mining. In 2014, he unsuccessfully ran for President of Wodzisław Śląski.
