A dead sperm whale has washed up on a Balinese beach in the Karangasem region. The day before, local authorities had helped the same whale back into the water after it got stuck on shore.

A dead sperm whale was found on Wednesday on the shores of the Karangasem region, which is located in the eastern part of the Indonesian island of Bali. The whale’s body was more than 30 kilometers away from where it had become stranded on the beach the day before, but was rescued.

– It’s a pity for the whale, because it is a protected species. If this continues, these animals may become extinct, said Ni Made Liarsi, a resident of the Indonesian island.

The head of Bali’s wildlife and natural resources protection unit, Permana Yudiarso, told Reuters that the likely cause of the whale’s death was some kind of disease. This is due to the samples that veterinarians collected from the body of a dead sperm whale.

It was the third whale to die after washing up on beaches within a week, Reuters reported.

“We really need to take action and protect the ocean, do something, because more and more sea creatures are washing up on the shores. The only positive thing I see here is that many organizations are working together, they want to investigate the cause of death of this sperm whale, ”said the German tourist.
