The basic document for the insurer is a photo of the damage caused by the flood – explained Agnieszka Durska, spokeswoman for the Polish Insurance Association. She added that in the case of simple damage, the payment can be made based on photos, without an expert's inspection.
PIU emphasized that residents of flood-affected areas must remember that the time to estimate losses will come when the water recedes and it is safe to return to the place. – Let us remember that the most important issue at the moment is still the protection of life and health. – Durska emphasized.

She pointed out that the most important thing is to take pictures. – General – showing the scale of damage and detailed – items that were destroyed – she explained. She added that cleaning can start immediately. – Let's make sure that the losses do not increase. If, for example, we need to buy tarpaulins, do minor renovation work, then let's do it without delay – she indicated.

According to information provided by Durska some insurers will also pay advances to cover initial expenses. – If major renovation work is necessary, let's inform the insurer and let's establish a course of action with him – she noted, adding that you should call the insurer immediately after taking the photos, it is a basic document.
Durska also reassured that if the injured party is unable to find the policy, the insurer will identify them anyway and provide information about other documents during the conversation. – Insurers have strengthened the call center staff and introduced simplified procedures. Some send text messages to their clients living in the affected area with information on what to do. They provide step-by-step instructions – said the PIU spokeswoman.
Less than half of the properties
The data presented by PIU show that In Poland, on average 49% of properties are insured. – As we wrote in our report “Climate of Growing Losses”, in Poland, insurance of individuals against the risks of natural disasters is relatively common. 71% of single-family buildings are insured against hurricanes, and 63% against flood risk. This is nationwide – informed Durska.
