Interview with Maria Ejchart, deputy minister of justice responsible for the prison system in the new government.
Filip Folczak: What are you going to do to make the prisoner a better person after being released?
Maria Ejchart: Prison isolation has become extreme in recent years – the conditions of imprisonment have become more stringent. Prisoners are allowed less, and their possibility of direct contact, as well as telephone contact with their family and defense attorney, has been limited. That’s why the first thing I did was to introduce the right to at least two phone calls a week. Contact with family is extremely important. There is no way to improve without contact with the outside world.
