The National Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a false alarm after a series of train stops in four provinces after an unauthorized radio-stop signal. The Podlasie police announced on Monday evening that they had initiated disciplinary proceedings and the procedure for dismissing the officer charged by the prosecutor’s office during the investigation. Two men were arrested by the police on Sunday.

The investigation into the false alarm is being conducted by the Podlaski Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office in Białystok. As the press office of the National Prosecutor’s Office reported in a message sent to the tvn24.pl editorial office, at this stage it does not inform about the details of the case – as we read – “due to the good of the preparatory proceedings and the ongoing and planned procedural activities”.

We talked about this matter with Stanisław Żaryn, Deputy Minister of Special Services Coordinator. In an interview with tvn24.pl, he emphasized that the Sunday detention of a 28-year-old from Białystok and a 24-year-old from Skierniewice in the Łódź Voivodeship was the result of police arrangements.

– Individual services cooperate very closely to determine how many signals the detainees could have sent. We are currently at the stage of obtaining key information, silence and patience are needed – said the deputy minister coordinator of special services.

He referred to the fact that about two hours after the men were detained in Białystok, there was another incident related to the broadcasting of a radio-stop signal. In Lubin and Raszówka, two passenger trains and a locomotive received a stop signal.

‘This may mean that we are dealing with a broader, coordinated practice. The matter of difficulties on the railway remains the subject of our highest interest. At this stage, we have no grounds to provide information indicating that the problems arise from the inspiration of a foreign state. However, the geopolitical situation requires us to thoroughly investigate who may be behind such incidents, said Stanisław Żaryn.

He noted that, to his knowledge, problems related to unauthorized broadcasting of the radio-stop signal had already appeared in the past. – This is not a new event on the Polish railways, but it does not change the fact that the matter requires immediate clarification – concludes Żaryn.

One of the arrested is a policeman

The RMF FM station reported on Monday afternoon that the journalists’ findings show that one of the men detained on Sunday is a policeman. The prosecutor’s office did not want to officially confirm this information. In response to our question, the investigators again indicated that “at the present stage, they do not provide further information as to the subject and scope of the investigation.” Reports that one of the detained is a police officer was also confirmed by informants interviewed by Robert Zieliński, an investigative journalist at tvn24.pl.

– The police officer is the owner of the premises where the arrest took place. Both men were drinking alcohol at the time of the apprehension. Activities with their participation will be possible only when they are fully sober – informed Robert Zieliński.

On Monday evening, the Podlaskie police announced on the X platform (former Twitter) that “the Provincial Police Commander in Bialystok initiated disciplinary proceedings and issued a decision with the rigor of immediate enforceability to suspend the officer charged by the prosecutor’s office.” “The dismissal procedure has also been initiated,” she added.

This information was confirmed by PAP, spokesman for the Podlasie police, Tomasz Krupa. He did not want to give details, he only pointed out that such administrative decisions are possible only when a prosecutor’s investigation is initiated and the police have information about criminal charges against its officer.

Secured amateur radio equipment

The arrest of the men – as reported earlier by sub-inspector Tomasz Krupa from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Białystok – took place around 1 p.m. in one of the apartments in Białystok.

– Amateur radio equipment was also secured in the place where they arrived – reported sub-inspector Krupa.

Tusk: Poles want to know what really happened

The leader of the Civic Platform also referred to the matter on portal X (formerly Twitter). Donald Tusk. “In recent days there have been serious railway incidents. The first detainees are involved in these provocations. Is it true that a policeman from the Department of Operational Technology is among them? On whose orders did he act? Poles want to know what really happened!” – he wrote.

A series of incidents, same scenario

On Sunday, in addition to the incident in the Dolnośląskie Voivodeship, trains in the Podlaskie Voivodeship were also stopped. – It happened around 7 am near the Łapy station – said Karol Jakubowski, spokesman for PKP PLK in an interview with tvn24.pl. – The event did not pose a threat, but it required stopping five passenger and one freight trains. Traffic resumed after a few minutes, when it turned out that there was no threat. We are explaining the circumstances of the incident – said Jakubowski. In identical circumstances, they had to stop forcibly on Saturday three passenger trains near Gdynia (Pomeranian Voivodeship). – That incident happened around 6 p.m. Traffic was quickly restored as soon as possible – reported tvn24.pl Karol Jakubowski.

On the same day, an unauthorized radio-stop signal slowed down a freight train traveling between Białogard and Runów Pomorskie (West Pomeranian Voivodeship). Radio RMF FM was the first to inform about this event. The station reported that around At 19.40 the signal was received by the driver of the freight train on the Świdwin – Worowo route and the traffic controller at the Runowo Pomorskie railway station in the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship. When it was checked that there was no threat – with the consent of the traffic controller – after about a minute the train went on.

On the other hand on Friday in the evening, due to the broadcasting of radio-stop signals using a radiotelephone in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, there was a delays of nearly 20 trains, and for two hours – as PKP PLK informed in the published communiqué – freight traffic was completely suspended. The incident took place at 21.23 on the line 273, section Daleszewo – Szczecin Główny and on the line 351, section Choszczno – Szczecin Główny. The radio-stop signal sent by an unauthorized person was received by traffic control posts and train drivers located in the area.

– The services that explain the circumstances of the events should be asked about possible connections between the incidents – Jakubowski commented.
