At least half of the ballistic missiles Iran fired at Israel did not even reach their targets, so they did not need to be shot down, ABC News reported, citing two US officials.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, Iran attacked Israel with a fleet of various types of flying missiles. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said that the attack involved 170 drones, 120 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles. He added that 99 percent of the missiles fired were intercepted and neutralized.

About half of the missiles failed to reach their targets

ABC News, citing two U.S. officials, reports that at least half of the ballistic missiles Iran fired during Saturday's attack on Israel crashed before hitting their targets or had problems while firing or during flight.

Earlier, a senior US administration official told ABC News that of over 300 drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles, only 115-135 reached Israel.

The ineffectiveness of Iran's missiles would mean that in a massive attack, only half of the ballistic missiles had to be shot down by the forces of Israel and its allies, because the rest did not pose a threat to that country.

The news about the defective Iranian weapons was first reported by the American newspaper “The Wall Street Journal”.

Iranian retaliation

The Iranian military command assessed the military operation against Israel as a “success”. “The reason for this operation was that the Zionist regime crossed the red line, which was unacceptable to us,” said the chief of staff of the Iranian army, General Mohammad Bagheri, on Sunday.

This was in retaliation for an attack on an Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus attributed to Israel, in which several senior Iranian officers were killed.
