Presidential elections in our country arouse interest abroad, primarily in the context of Europe unity towards the war of Russia in Ukraine and influence in Europe of the magician movement.
Foreign media inform about the presidential election in Poland from a geopolitical perspective – in the context of a relationship with Ukraine, Russia and the United States. However, they start with their attitudes: journalists explain to their recipients what our political scene looks like and who the most important politicians are.
The extensive material realized by Arte shows what the division of power and influence is. – There is one hook. Nationalists still have a president. Andrzej Duda's powers are limited, but it can veto any reform – said Arte TV journalist. The Associated Press agency presents RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski as “the liberal mayor of Warsaw” and “political ally of Prime Minister Donald Tusk”, and Karol Nawrocki as a “conservative historian”. “He is not a member of the party, and the issue of his candidacy is to refresh the image of PiS,” writes AP.
In turn, the Reuters agency writes that “Trzaskowski's staff wants to emphasize his experience and contacts among European leaders.” However, Karol Nawrocki “squeezes the seventh sweats in the training room or helps the victims of floods. Nawrocki does everything in his power to build the image of a strong and ordinary person.”
Political life after populism
The belief is dominated that these presidential elections are important not only for Poland and Poles itself, but also for the entire region. The rate is high, because the effects of the election will be felt for many years.
“Is there a political life after populism? Poland can give an answer. The current government creates a central coalition. To fix the destruction of democracy made by its predecessors, it needs the president” – we read in “The New York Times”.
“One of the most important tasks of the new president will be maintaining close relations with the United States. In view of the more and more hostile neighborhood, these relations are of existential significance for the country,” writes “The Washington Post”.
– RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski is perceived in France As a candidate, who, however, “submits” this American alliance and is more involved in European topics, at least he will confirm this pro -European course – comments Adam Haskou, correspondent of the French media in Warsaw.
Recorded change in the attitude of Poles to Ukrainians
In a large report, BBC journalists write that one of the important topics of the campaign is to provide financial assistance and military aid Ukraine. They emphasize that the moods in Polish society have changed and are no longer so positive towards refugees.
“Extremely right -wing populist SÅ‚awomir Mentzen is venomously anti -Ukrainian and supports the” agreement “with Russia. Karol Nawrocki opposes Ukraine's membership in NATO and the Union and financial assistance for refugees. The most pro -Ukrainian is the leader of the polls RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski, but even he promised cutting social support for Ukrainians,” writes the BBC,
– that RafaÅ‚ Trzaskowski themes Ukraine differently, not so positively that he questioned, for example, social expenditure on Ukrainians. However, this was a great surprise – says Tomasz Kurianowicz, editor -in -chief of “Berliner Zeitung”.
Foreign media are not able to discuss all candidates, so they focus their attention on those people who have the highest social support. Few editors noticed a scandal related to the apartment of Karol Nawrocki.
