A correspondent of the “Kyiv Post” published on social media photos of a boy who is allegedly the child of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his alleged mistress Alina Kabaeva. “Dmitry Vladimirovich Kabaev. His middle name means ‘son of Vladimir’,” writes Jason Jay Smart. The case was reviewed by the American magazine “Newsweek”. The issue of Putin’s “unknown children” has been recurring for years.

Alina Kabaeva is a former Olympic champion and multiple world champion in rhythmic gymnastics and a former State Duma deputy. Currently, she is the head of Russia’s largest media holding, the National Media Group (NMG). According to media reports, she has also been a partner for several years Vladimir Putinthough he never confirmed it himself. The Kremlin is trying to fight any rumors about this alleged relationship. When in 2008 the “Moskovsky Correspondent” wrote about Putin’s plans to divorce Putin in order to marry Kabaeva, the paper was immediately shut down. The official reason was “financial problems”.

In the year in which the first alleged child of Putin and Kabaeva was born, the president’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov he called the reports “journalistic slander.” The case of Putin’s unknown children has recently become loud again after Jason Jay Smart, a correspondent for the “Kyiv Post”, tweeted two photos of a boy similar to the Russian president on January 25.

Alleged son of Vladimir Putin

“Dmitry Vladimirovich Kabaev. His middle name means ‘son of Vladimir’,” wrote the journalist. The entry was widely commented on the Internet. One of the Internet users said that Smart “should let go” of the child. “We have sanctioned Putin’s other children,” the Kyiv Post correspondent replied, adding that the boy in the photo should be “deported from Europe”, where he lives with the Russian president’s alleged mistress.

The case of the alleged child was taken up by the American “Newsweek”. According to the American magazine, “despite the superficial resemblance, there is nothing more to support the claim” that the child in the photo is the son of Putin and Kabaeva. According to Newsweek, the source of the latest reports is the Facebook account of Konstantin Borovoi, a former Russian politician who now lives in Los Angeles. Borovoi published an entry in which he stated that the photo taken in 2021 shows a boy aged 10-11.

Who is the boy’s father?

Entries contradicting Borovoi’s claim appeared on the Internet. “In fact, he is the son of Ivan Nefedov, head of the liturgical books department at the publishing house of the Russian Orthodox Church,” Russian independent investigative journalist Andrei Zakharov tweeted. As he added, “Unlike Putin, Nefiedov adheres to traditional family values in deeds, not just in words.” The post was accompanied by a screenshot from Borovoy’s account and two photos of the alleged son of the Russian president.

According to Newsweek, the man standing next to the boy in one of the photos is actually Ivan Nefiedov, an Orthodox priest. According to a resume posted online, the man is married and has seven children. In addition, according to the American portal, high-profile photos of the boy, published, among others, in by Smart, were not created in 2021 – they were already published in December 2018.

However, it has not been possible to determine whether the boy in the photos shared on the Internet in late January is the person visible in the photos provided by Zakharov. The website of the American magazine noted that while it cannot be “fully ruled out” that the boy is related to Putin, Kabaeva or both, there is no evidence of a relationship other than “a subjective assessment of physical resemblance”.
