During my meeting today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrzej Szejna, I once again expressed my deep personal sadness and sincere apologies in connection with the tragic death of World Central Kitchen employees, including the Polish citizen Mr. Damian Sobol. We wholeheartedly sympathize with the families, wrote Israeli ambassador to Poland Yakov Liwne on social media after his meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrzej Szejna.

Israeli ambassador to Poland Yakov Liwne was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was related to the death of seven volunteers, including a Pole, in the Gaza Strip. On Tuesday, the humanitarian group World Central Kitchen said they were fired upon by the Israeli army while delivering food aid that had arrived in the Gaza Strip hours earlier from Cyprus.

The Israeli ambassador spoke out after the meeting on social media. “During my meeting today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrzej Szejna, I once again expressed my deep personal sadness and sincere apologies in connection with the tragic death of World Central Kitchen employees, including the Polish citizen Mr. Damian Sobol. We wholeheartedly join the families in grief – wrote on the website X.

“I assured the deputy minister that Israel is fully committed to a transparent and thorough investigation into this grave tragedy. Please read the findings of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) released today, which demonstrate our continued commitment to investigating what happened in Gaza and take all appropriate measures to prevent such tragedies in the future, Liwne said.
