The Speaker of the Sejm expressed condolences to the family and friends of a Polish volunteer who died in an attack by the Israeli army on a humanitarian convoy in the Gaza Strip. He called for an “impartial investigation that will lead to a full explanation of the matter.”

Szymon Hołownia expressed his condolences in a statement published by the Chancellery of the Sejm on social media. He stressed that the lives of civilians on both sides – Palestinian and Israeli – must be protected in accordance with international law and international humanitarian law. “A terrible thing happened that should never have happened,” he said.

Seven volunteers of a humanitarian organization World Central Kitchen, including Pole Damian Soból, died in the Gaza Strip as a result of Israeli army fire. The incident occurred while workers were delivering food aid that had arrived in the Gaza Strip a few hours earlier by ship from Cyprus. The fatalities include citizens of Australia, Poland and Great Britain, and one person with American-Canadian citizenship. The Palestinian driver was also killed.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, in his Tuesday conversation with the head of Israeli diplomacy, Israel Kac, expressed “outrage and shock” and called for an impartial investigation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claims that Israeli soldiers “inadvertently” killed World Central Kitchen workers.
