Although we have the end of May, there is more and more snow in the Tatra Mountains. It got white, among others, in the Chochołowska Polana, and in the higher parts of the mountains returned the avalanche threat
On Saturday morning on Kasprowy Wierch lay 20 centimeters of white fluff. Mostly it was fresh snow – during the last day he came there as much as 15 cm. As for the top temperature, it dropped to -4 degrees Celsius. Snow is also covered by other parties Tatra. At Hala Gąsienicowa it lies 18 cm, in the Five Polish Ponds Valley 12 cm, white even got in the Chochołowska Polana, where four centimeters of the snow cover were recorded. It also poured on Gubałówka.
The avalanche threat returned
The first degree of avalanche threat applies from a height of 1700 m above sea level. It means that the snow cover is generally well bound and stable, but it is possible to go down small and medium avalanches, especially on very steep or extreme slopes. The services of the Tatra National Park (TPN) reported in the Saturday announcement that the conditions for tourism are unfavorable. The trails in higher parts are covered with fresh snow. An additional difficulty is the low cloud ceiling, which limits visibility and hinders the orientation in the field, which can be the cause of crazy. Tourists planning trips to higher parts of the mountains should have experience in winter mountain tourism and appropriate equipment – crayfish, ice ax, helmet. On the lower trails there is slippery and muddy, and in streams increased water levels. Slipping in a steep terrain threatens a dangerous fall from a height.
