“This is Jastrem from Linz,” said Klaudia Jans-Ignacik with a result of 1: 1 and 30:30. After a while, the Ukrainian woman had a chance to break the website of Iga Świątek. The Polish woman defended herself, she came out 2: 1. But probably not only the commentator Canal+ was reminded of the last successful Jastrem performances.
Two weeks ago, the 48th WTA ranking player was in the final of the tournament in Linz. He lost him 6: 2, 3: 6, 5: 7 with Ekatierina Aleksandrowa. But in earlier rounds she beat, among others Maria Sakkari, winning one of the sets 6: 0. Generally, since the beginning of the year, Jastrem won 10 out of 15 matches. In the most important tournament – Australian Open – reached the third round, where she lost 3: 6, 4: 6 with Rybakina.
The rival of Świątek attacked as if they were reminded of her best matches
In Melbourne, Jastrem played solidly, although she did not repeat the greatest success in her life she achieved a year ago, when in Australian Open reached the semi -finals. And she started from qualifications. It was a revelation then. Then she showed that she could threaten everyone – in the quarter -finals she defeated Linda Noskova, who had a sensation in the third round earlier, eliminating Świątek (then number 1 of the WTA ranking). And earlier she won, among others with the Vondrousova market (number 7 in that tournament), i.e. the Grand Slam champion, with Victoria Azarenka (No. 18), i.e. another Grand Slam champion, from one more placed rival, Emma Navarro (27).
Now in Dubai, in the clash from Świątek, from the beginning we have seen that Jastrem has a fire. She absolutely believed in herself and in the possibility of sensation. She played very hard and very offensive. She did not give the favorite to escape, even though she promised to be several times.
When Świątek ran into the net and won the exchange at 3: 2, 40: 0 at the Jastrem service, the Ukrainian woman clearly got angry. This is because Świątek hit the tape very strongly and it seemed that the ball will soon hit Jastrem. The replays showed that the Ukrainian woman, fearing reflexively, covered her face with her hand. Iga apologized to her and immediately under the net, and before the start of the next point, when she was waiting for the rival's pickup. After a while, Świątek broke her rival, but although she came out 4: 2 and served, we no longer watched a quiet “riding” of a Polish woman for triumph in the first set.
Jastrem was broken by Świątek and it was 3: 4 at her website. Then Iga came out on a two -piece lead (5: 3) and served. Instead of closing the set with a 6: 3 result, she allowed Jastremska to take the initiative once again and lost her application again. With a score of 5: 4 for Świątek and Jastreska, we saw her huge problems with the service – the Ukrainian woman gave points at 30:30 and 30:40 double mistakes. But when Świątek had two setboles, then Jastrem was entering the highest level and played great strokes ending with the funga. After the 5: 5 action in Gemach, the transmission implementer displayed Winner statistics. She was very surprising – at that moment the Ukrainian had as many as 15 of them, and a Polish woman – only two.
However, not everything depended on the rival. Świątek raised the level
– It all depends on the court on her, this is how it must be assessed- said Maciej Zaręba, who commented on the match together with Klaudia Jans-Ignacik.
Fortunately, however, not everything depended on Jastrem. At the end of the first batch of Świątek, she finally focused well and first the game won at her website, and when leading 6: 5 she broke the rival to zero.
In the second set from the beginning the game was already taking place under the dictation of our tennis player. Iga limited the number of mistakes (in the first set she made 13 of them), and the Ukrainian could not do it (in the first game she had as many as 16 winners, but also made as many as 31 unforced mistakes). Świątek finally drove away quickly. When she led 7: 5, 3: 0, it was at the end of her trouble. Especially that for 59 minutes of a sharp fight in the first set, Jastrem paid with health problems. Losing 5: 7, 0: 3, the Ukrainian asked for a medical break and we watched the physiotherapist helps her to relax her right shoulder.
At that moment, the slack at the same time showed Christmas. After three games of the second set she had four vineyards. Twice as much as in the first set. Jastremka returned to the court, tried to fight, but she was able to do nothing against Christmas, and more offensive, and calmer. And I think Jastrem was quickly understood, because immediately after the medical break she was broken again. And losing 5: 7, 0: 4 at the rival's website it is really hard to believe in a miracle. Especially when this rival is Świątek.
In the quarter -finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai Świątek will face Russian Andrejew (14 WTA) or with the American Stearns (46 WTA).
