Each subsequent day shows the devastation the flood wreaked. Its destructive power took everything from many people – houses, jobs, farms. Some flood victims have to deal with the effects of the element just like in 1997. They help each other, others help them.

– The man has done everything. He lost everything for the second time – sums up Łucja Kasprzyk, a resident of the village of Wronów. Mrs. Łucja perfectly remembers the flood of 1997, when her husband was still alive. Now she has to face the effects of the element alone. Their children would inherit her house.

Powerlessness, helplessness, fear – these are the emotions that accompany residents not only in the village of Wronów in the Opole province, but everywhere where water has destroyed roads, houses and farms.

– My entire life's work is gone. At the retirement age I am at, I should be able to live peacefully, but here, unfortunately, everything has turned upside down for me – says Mrs. Małgorzata, a resident of the village of Trzebieszowice.

Many families' worlds collapsed along with their homes. The natural disaster destroyed not only the roof over Mrs. Agata's head. Together with her husband, they ran an agritourism farm. A strong current of water carried away a summer house and moved it several dozen meters away. – At times it seems to me that somehow things will get better, and then I lose hope and the light disappears – says Mrs. Agata, a resident of the village of Radochów.

They learn to live again, although it is not easy, because the images from the flood are still in their minds. When the village of Wronów almost disappeared under water, Mrs. Anna and her neighbors were evacuated. Her husband stayed home to take care of the animals.

– It is very scary and I wouldn't wish it on anyone – says Anna Solarz, a resident of the village of Wronów. – Those who now knew that the water was flowing simply opened doors and windows so that the water would take things with it, because there would be less cleaning – adds Mr. Mirosław, a friend of Mrs. Anna.

They need more than just cleaning tools and chemicals

Some returned to their homes after the water receded. – The second day we are chipping away the plaster, because at this point the only thing that can be done is chipping everything down to the bare brick, putting in the dehumidifiers and waiting for it to dry, and only when the bricks are dry and water is just pouring out of them, it will be you can do something more – says Dariusz Mielcarzewicz, a resident of the village of Wronów.

– It will take us a year to dry it all out, because the walls are soaked, the water has been standing for too long – says Maria Oszust, a resident of the village of Wronów.

Residents need not only tools and chemicals for cleaning and drying, but above all, strength. – I must have this strength because every day I do something and there are a lot of things to sort out – says Mrs. Małgorzata, a resident of the village of Trzebieszowice.

– I will cry, I will complain, but I also know that I am also strong. My friends know me and know that I will not give up, I will fight for it – assures Mrs. Agata.

Soldiers help in this fight. They carried broken equipment and furniture from flooded houses. – Thank you because the army did a great job here – says Dariusz Mielcarzewicz.

“The flood united us”

Without the support of family, friends, neighbors and people of good will who come from other cities, it would be much more difficult to control all this.

– We are talking to our friends that we haven't had the opportunity to meet all summer, even in nice circumstances at a barbecue or by a bonfire, but the flood has united us and that everyone is still there – says Mr. Mirosław, a friend of Mrs. Anna.

– You can see our solidarity, people have come together and united in solidarity at this moment. It keeps us mentally strong, admits Mrs. Małgorzata. – It is very encouraging and glad that people helped here – agrees Mrs. Agata.

For them it is now a race against time to make it before the frost and snow. That's why they only have one wish. – To deal with all this as quickly as possible and get back to life balance – sums up Mrs. Małgorzata.
