One of the visitors in the Italian museum unfortunately tripped and fell into a sixteenth -century picture. The pictures show that the image is torn. Damage was valued at several thousand euros. The work was not secured.
The incident, defined by the Italian agency as “film”, took place at the Museum of Saint Julia in Brescia in the north Italian. The woman stumbled so unlucky that when falling, she leaned her hand on the painting “Stendardo Dei Discipinini” by the Renaissance artist Moretto from Brescia (actually Alessandro Bonvicino) and torn the canvas in the right corner.
– Fortunately, the visitors did nothing to herself. Such things happen, especially because a lot of people visit the exhibition on these days – said the director of the Museums Foundation in Brescia Stefano Karadjov.
The museum assured that the destruction could be repaired and irreversible damage was not occurred. The loss is estimated at several thousand euros. This sum will be covered with insurance.
The work was staged in October last year after long maintenance works. The expert who conducted them was immediately called to the museum. The image, painted between 1522 and 1524, was not protected with a protective glass.
