The perpetrator of the recent act of vandalism in the Colosseum, which carved initials on the wall with a key, is a resident of Great Britain, as was the woman accompanying him at the time, the carabiniers from Rome have established.

In the recordings and photos published by the Italian media, including newspapers on the front pages, two young people are clearly visible. When a man, using a key, left his and his partner’s initials on the wall of the Flavian Amphitheatre, she stood by, watching.

The Minister of Culture demands a heavy penalty for the vandal

For the destruction of a monument, the perpetrator is liable to imprisonment for up to five years and a fine of at least EUR 15,000.

Italian Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano, among others, expressed indignation at this incident, emphasizing that the perpetrator must be severely punished.
