Former prominent Italian politician Giovanni Toti, who was convicted of corruption, will serve his sentence by doing community service. The sentence was commuted from the previously imposed prison sentence.
The former governor of the Italian region of Liguria, Giovanni Toti, received a two-year and three-month prison sentence for corruption in December last year. Ultimately, however, it was changed to 1,620 hours of community service. The politician will serve his sentence at the headquarters of the Italian League Against Cancer in Genoa. He will work 8 hours twice a week at the reception desk, answering phones, taking appointments and seeing patients. Previously, Toti spent seven months under house arrest.

Giovanni Toti convicted of corruption
Toti was a television journalist Silvio Berlusconi and a prominent politician of his Forza Italia party. He was convicted of corruption while serving as head of the regional authorities and for illegal financing of the party. The investigation concerned the 2020 election campaign. According to the prosecutor's office, the then governor received bribes from an entrepreneur who sought to extend the concession for the lease of port areas.
