Two American tourists were stopped by the municipal police in Rome while bathing in the historic Trevi Fountain. The oppressive heat in the Eternal City was not a mitigating factor and the women were severely punished.
The Ansa news agency reported on Saturday that two women, aged 53 and 57, entered the fountain. They were immediately detained, booked and punished.
According to the regulations of the Roman city guard the fine for such an act is 450 euros. The tourists were additionally ordered to move away from the Baroque fountain, considered the most beautiful in the world.
The American women were clearly trying to imitate film star Anita Ekberg from Federico Fellini's “Dolce Vita”.
