Italy could be visited by up to 68 million tourists this summer. This is according to the forecasts of the research institute Demoskopika. The most popular destinations are Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. The president of Emilia-Romagna, Stefano Bonaccini, invites you to visit the region, large areas of which were affected by the catastrophic flooding in May. – If you want to help, come on holiday. In this way, you will help our employees in the tourism industry – he stressed.

The research institute Demoskopika forecasts that the number of tourists in Italy will be more than 4 percent higher than last year, when 65 million people arrived, and their spending will increase by 5 percent. It is estimated that tourists will spend 46 billion euros. The number of tourists from 2019, i.e. the last one before the COVID-19 pandemic, will also be exceeded by several percentage points.

Across Italy, “perhaps the highest number since 2000 will be recorded, both in terms of tourists and accommodation,” said the institute’s president, Raffaele Rio, presenting the “Tourist forecast for summer 2023” report. More than 35 million foreigners have already chosen holidays on the Apennine Peninsula from June to September this year.

The most popular destinations are Tuscany, where 7.4 million Italians and foreigners will spend the summer, and Emilia-Romagna – over 6 million people will come there. It was the predictions for this region, partly affected by the catastrophic flooding, that were considered particularly comforting. In the element, the Riviera on the Adriatic did not suffer.

Holidays in Emilia-Romagna

Stefano Bonaccini, president of the Emilia-Romagna authorities, recently addressed an appeal to tourists. In an interview with Sky TV station Tg24, he said: “Many people ask me – how can we help? If you want to help, come on holiday. In this way you will help our employees in the tourism industry, who because of their hospitality, professionalism and level of service have no competition in the world world”.

The appeal was launched by Stefano Bonaccini after a series of studies by the regional environmental agency confirmed that it is possible to bathe in the sea in the resorts along the coast known as the Riviera Romagnola, from Ferrara to Cattolica. The exception is the beach at Casal Borsetti near Ravenna.

This means – as the local authorities informed – that you can bathe in 97 out of 98 seaside towns.

– The results of the analyzes confirm the good condition of our sea, with some problems in a limited section – stressed the head of the department for tourism in the regional authorities Andrea Corsini.

– But the general picture of the situation at our sea is positive – he assured. “The Riviera is ready,” Corsini announced.
