Industry response: Self-check-in is popular, especially when booking through the Airbnb app. In an official statement, the company assured that it “takes security issues seriously and supports official actions to combat illegal key boxes in public places,” but defended self-reporting itself as a “convenient option for both hosts and guests to manage arrivals in a flexible way.” She also announced talks with the Italian government.
