At the request of the prosecutor's office, the Carabinieri on Tuesday carried out a judicial seizure of an estate of 43 illegal summer houses on the coast in Castel Volturno in southern Italy, where family members of the heads of the local mafia, the Camorra, were vacationing, local media reported.

It was an enclave of the Belforte gang from the town of Marcianise, near Caserta, Ansa reported.

The holiday homes were home to, among others, about twenty close relatives of the clan leaders Salvatore and Domenico Belforte, who have been in prison for years.

Small villas were built from the 1980s on state-owned coastal land.

No one, including local authorities – as noted by investigators – ever filed a report that it was an illegal settlement.
