In the face of this crisis, the local prefecture and the police, in cooperation with the Italian Ministry of the Interior, organized a series of transfers of migrants to other centers by any means available: ships, liner ferries, patrol boats.

The migrants were transported, among others, to the port of Augusta in Sicily and to Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia in Calabria.

Ignazio Schintu, director of emergency and rescue operations for the Italian Red Cross, was quoted by Ansa as saying that the situation in the Imbriacola hotspot had “returned to normal”.

– By maintaining the current rhythm of transporting to the mainland: two and a half thousand people in 36 hours will be able to avoid the crisis – assessed Schintu.

More migrants arrived in Lampedusa

On Saturday, when the sea was rough, another 240 migrants arrived in Lampedusa.

RAI television noted in an extensive coverage of the island that tourism is flourishing there at the same time, and many tourists relax on the beaches, considered the “pearls” of the Mediterranean.
