The Japanese financial magnate has rented two of Palermo’s most famous theaters for his 73rd birthday, which will last several days. He has booked five luxury hotels and guesthouses for about a thousand guests, according to media from the capital of Sicily. The celebration is three years late. The birthday boy planned it for 2020 when he turned 70, but everything was canceled due to the pandemic.
Billionaire Kaoru Nakajima, called the king of marketing, has already arrived in Palermo to finalize the details of all the birthday events, which are scheduled to culminate on Sunday. Then, according to local media, Matteo Bocelli, the son of the world-famous tenor Andrea Bocelli, will give a recital in the rented theater. This theater was rented for EUR 100,000, and the other one – Politeama, where the birthday dinner will be held, for EUR 35,000 – mentions the local press. Due to the fact that both theaters were rented for a few days, the dates of several previously announced events there were postponed. The Sicilian Symphony Orchestra had to find another venue for its two weekend concerts.
Delay due to COVID-19
Nakajima concluded an agreement on the organization of a several-day anniversary on an unprecedented scale with the previous city authorities; then, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the then mayor decided to postpone it to a later date. Ultimately, the billionaire will celebrate his 70th birthday with a three-year delay because – as explained – he decided to wait for the sanitary crisis to finally end. The Sicilian menu for guests staying in five-star hotels was prepared by the famous chef Fulvio Pierangelini. The president of the region’s authorities, Renato Schifani, does not hide his irritation at the rental of two public theaters and the grand celebrations, which will take place under extraordinary security measures, also requiring the involvement of various services. “Everything has its limits,” he declared.
