Architect Lanfranco Cirillo has been prosecuted over allegations of tax evasion by Italy’s Justice Minister Carlo Nordio. Cirillo, who lives in Moscow, is called “Putin’s architect,” Italian media noted on Thursday.
At the beginning of this year Russia informed the Italian side that Lanfranco Cirillo could not be arrested in that country because he was granted Russian citizenship. He got them personally from the president Vladimir Putin in 2014.
Cirillo lives in a Moscow skyscraper that partly belongs to him. He also owns assets estimated at €140 million, including three villas, a yacht, a helicopter and an art collection.
Accused of tax fraud
The decision by Justice Minister Carlo Nordio is a reaction to a request from the prosecutor’s office in Brescia in the north Italian about prosecuting an architect. According to the Italian Financial Guard, Cirillo committed tax fraud of €50 million between 2013 and 2019.
RAI television reminded that the imprisoned dissident Alexei Navalny pointed to the Italian as one of the creators of Putin’s huge estate near Gelendzhik, in the south of Russia.
Cirillo is called “Putin’s architect” because he and the Russian oligarchs value him, Italian media noted on Thursday.
