Venus, the superyacht built for Steve Jobs, collided off the coast of Italy with another superyacht, the Lady Moura, owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego, US media report.
The collision, reported in recent days by American business portals, occurred on July 22 off the coast of Naples in Italy. The collision of the 78-meter yacht, commissioned by the late Apple founder Steve Jobs, was confirmed to Business Insider by a spokesman for Emerson Collective, an organization founded by his widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, which currently owns the yacht.
A video was published on Ricardo Salinas Pliego's Instagram profile, showing the moment of collision. “I would like to know what the captain and crew are doing, who have not seen a yacht the size of mine (Lady Moura is 105 m long – ed.). It's good that nothing happened except a scratch. But it's a big scratch that needs a lot of repair, ha ha ha,” we read in the description. As added, the video shows how important it is to “have a responsible captain.”

A spokesman for Emerson Collective, quoted by Business Insider, stated that only the crew was on the Venus. He added that both boats were anchored and that the collision was caused by a sudden change in wind. According to Forbes, the owner of the Lady Moura was also not on board at the time.
Fox Business sources confirm that before the collision, the wind changed in a few minutes from a breeze (a light wind created at the interface of land and sea – ed.) to a gale reaching 55 knots (approx. 100 km/h – ed.). The portal cites Grupo Salinas, according to which the crew of the Lady Moura made “numerous efforts” to alert the crew of the Venus to the danger. “Both captains spoke immediately after the incident about the need for minor repairs,” Fox quotes its source. This is also confirmed by the Mexican businessman's company, according to which “within a few hours both parties resolved the situation amicably and professionally.”
According to the industry publication Superyacht Times, Venus, launched in 2012, is the 209th largest yacht in the world. Lady Moura, which has been sailing since 1990 and can accommodate 27 guests with a crew of 72, is 75th on the list. Business Insider reports that the minimalist superyacht, built for the late Apple founder, was worth $130 million (over half a billion złoty at the current exchange rate) when it left the shipyard. According to Superyacht Times, neither unit has been offered for sale in recent years.
In a post on Ricardo Salinas Pliego's profile it was noted that the collision did not interrupt the businessman's vacation.
