Italy. The G7 summit begins in Puglia. Important decisions will be made regarding Ukraine

At the summit of the leaders of the G7 countries, which is just starting in Italy, one of the main topics of discussion will be two wars – in Ukraine and in the Middle East. A three-day summit of the leaders of the G7 countries begins on Thursday in the Italian region of Puglia. Leaders of the United States, Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Canada and the European Union, as well as other invited guests – including the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and Pope Francis – will meet at the luxurious Borgo Egnazia hotel near Fasano.

G7 Summit. The main theme is two wars

The summit will start with a session on Africa, climate change and development, and then the talks will focus on the situation in the Middle East. According to Bloomberg, G7 leaders are to appeal to Hamas to approve the ceasefire agreement presented by the president Joe Bidenand call on Israel to moderate its military offensive.

In the afternoon, talks will focus on Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky will take part in these deliberations. On Wednesday, Joe Biden's security adviser, Jake Sullivan, announced in a conversation with journalists on board the presidential Air Force One on the conclusion of negotiations with Ukraine on a bilateral security agreement. He said that it would be signed on Thursday at the G7 forum. The agreement is intended to “set out the framework for how we will work with Ukraine and other allies to ensure that Ukraine has what it needs, both in terms of physical, intelligence and other capabilities.” – By signing this agreement, we will also send Russia a signal of our determination. Also on Wednesday, the media reported that the leaders of the G7 countries reached an agreement “on the payment of $50 billion” to Ukraine due to the use of profits from Russian assets frozen in the European Union and G7 countries, the value of which is approximately EUR 300 billion. Moreover, as John Kirby, spokesman for the US National Security Council, announced on Tuesday, the G7 countries will announce sanctions aimed at cutting off the Russian defense industry from needed materials.

The Pope attends the G7 summit for the first time

On Friday, the session will focus on immigration, the situation in the Indo-Pacific region and economic security, and in the afternoon, the situation in the Mediterranean basin, energy, Africa and artificial intelligence. He will lead this last session Pope Francis, who will appear at the G7 summit for the first time in historyand.

On Thursday evening, an official dinner for the heads of state and government was planned at Svevo Castle in Brindisi.
