A man from Lombardy was crushed by thousands of rounds of cheese and his body was recovered after twelve hours. The local authorities informed about the Italian’s death.

The tragic accident happened on Sunday. A cheese shelf broke in the warehouse of 74-year-old Giacomo Chiapparini.

The warehouse is located in Romano di Lombardia, about 50 kilometers east of Milan. 25,000 rounds of Grana Padano, a hard cheese popular in Italy, were stored there.

The collapse of the shelf caused a domino effect, causing more shelves with cheese wheels to collapse. Each of them weighed about 40 kilograms. According to the BBC, some of the circles were supposed to fall from about ten meters. A Romano di Lombardia resident told Italian media that he heard what sounded like thunder. Economic damage was estimated at seven million euros.
