Juliet’s house in Verona with its famous balcony disappoints tourists because of long queues. You have to stand in them to enter a small courtyard, where there is a statue of a Shakespearean heroine. City officials are trying to improve the situation. It was decided to carry out an experiment, the first results of which are positive.
Casa di Giulietta, the biggest tourist attraction of Verona, is located on via Cappello, a street whose name comes from the name of the family to which the building belonged. The belief that it resembles the surname of Julia’s family – the Capuleti, has become established. In addition, it is emphasized that the house itself is similar to the description in the drama “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare.
Juliet’s house in Verona – long lines
According to the Italian news agency Dire, the city authorities, in response to criticism and complaints from tourists, say that Juliet’s House cannot be compared to an ordinary tourist attraction, such as amusement parks or recreation areas.
At the same time, steps are being taken to improve the situation in one of the most visited monuments in the world.
The authorities of Verona note that the reason for the complaints is not the condition of the famous courtyard, but the way the queue to Juliet’s House and its courtyard is managed.
Every month, an average of 170,000 people come there, which is over 5,000 a day, even more during the peak tourist season. Waiting in a long queue is especially severe during the current heatwave.
It is a real river of people – admitted the city management. As an experiment, to streamline queues and reduce waiting times, new entrance routes to the museum and the courtyard, which can accommodate up to 120 people, have been introduced.
The first attempts were successful. “This is a success and a breakthrough after decades of debates” – emphasized the city authorities.
