The current edition of the Champions League is quite difficult for Wisła Płock. Suffice it to say that after nine rounds it was in sixth place with only four points. This is the result of two victories and as many as seven defeats. It was therefore important that on Wednesday evening they followed Industria Kielce's lead and added two points to their account. Especially since she competed with seventh-placed Eurofarm Pelister, which was right behind her in the table (also four points).
Wisła Płock with another defeat in the Champions League. The first half was even, but the beginning of the second half was a disaster
The beginning of the competition was quite even. The players of both teams played aggressively, which often resulted in time penalties being imposed on them. And so, in the first eight minutes, the referee excluded as many as three players. The Macedonians showed greater initiative in the game. They were the ones taking the lead, and Wisła was the team that was chasing their rivals. However, they did it quite effectively, especially Miha Zarabec, who scored four goals in the first half despite a two-minute penalty.
Only at the end of this game did the rivals slightly escape the Polish team. They gained a two-goal advantage and went to the break with the score 12:10. And in the second part they did not slow down. In fact, they turned them up quite noticeably. They easily broke through the defense of the Płock team. And so the first goals were scored by the hosts. They were already leading 15:10.
– Wisła's game is not varied. (…) He plays more schematically, it is easier to defend against such a team – Eurosport commentators pointed out. In addition, the Płock team was in a hurry and easily lost the ball. She played quite nervously, which favored her opponents.
Then there was a significant downtime in the game. For almost a quarter of an hour, not a single goal was scored. There was also a rather controversial refereeing decision. It seems that Samoil Ristevski intentionally hit Przemysław Krajewski with his elbow, but he only received a two-minute penalty.
– It's not enough. I am very surprised by this behavior of the referees. (…) He saw exactly what was happening behind his back, he looked where Krajewski was positioned. There should be a red card here – shouted the commentators, who even demanded a blue card for the Eurofarm player, which would exclude him not only from this match, but also from the next match.
Commentators are shocked. This was not the attitude Wisła expected
At one point, Wisła even played with a two-player advantage. But she wasn't able to take advantage of it. She was unable to score any goals, which greatly outraged the audience. – We are devastated by what this meeting looks like. (…) There is no idea here – added commentators.
And finally the game of both teams started and they started scoring goals. The Płock team tried to catch up with their rivals, but without much success. And although they threatened their opponents a bit in the end, it was not enough for them to start making bigger mistakes. Ultimately, the match ended with the score 21:18 for the Macedonian team. Wisła's situation has become very complicated. Due to the defeat, she dropped to seventh place. Teams from places 3-6 will advance to the 1/8 finals. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the quarterfinals.
