MOSCOW — Evan Gershkovich, a Wall Road Journal reporter who was detained on espionage costs, appeared in a Moscow courtroom Tuesday to attraction his arrest.
The 31-year-old United States citizen was arrested within the metropolis of Yekaterinburg whereas on a reporting journey to Russia in late March. He and his employer deny the allegations, and the U.S. authorities declared him to be wrongfully detained. Russian authorities haven’t supplied any proof to help the espionage costs.
Gershkovich is the primary American reporter to face espionage costs in Russia since September 1986, when Nicholas Daniloff, a Moscow correspondent for U.S. Information and World Report, was arrested by the KGB.
