Grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda lost in New York to the defending world ranking leader, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, 0-3 in the semi-final match of the World Blitz Championships. He won the bronze medal.
The Pole will stand on the podium of the world championship for the third time in this version of the royal game. In 2018 in Saint Petersburg and 2021 in Warsaw, he won silver medals.
Unlike the quarterfinal match, in which the 26-year-old grandmaster from Wieliczka defeated the American Fabiano Caruana 2.5:0.5, he started the competition to advance to the final playing black, not white.
Against the leader of the world ranking, fighting on Wall Street for his eighth blitz championship title, the Pole lost all three games. The Norwegian will play for the title against the winner of the second semi-final between Russian Jan Nepomnyashchi, who plays under the FIDE flag, and American Wesley So.
The World Blitz Chess Championship will be decided tonight.
