The prosecutor’s office said it would investigate the circumstances of the death of a 32-year-old man who was pulled out of the water on Wednesday after participating in the chain of life in Jantar. Proceedings are conducted with regard to manslaughter. The second male participating in the operation is still in a serious condition in the hospital.

According to Grażyna Wawryniuk, spokeswoman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Gdańsk, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Malbork initiated proceedings regarding the manslaughter of a 32-year-old man who drowned in Jantar on Wednesday. Previously, along with other people, he participated in the chain of life. The second injured person is in the hospital.

She added that investigators will try to clarify what exactly happened on Wednesday in Jantar – the chain of life was created after possibly false information that someone was drowning in the sea.

Chain that is broken

High waves caused the four people who made up the life chain to melt. Two people got out of the water on their own. The other two were pulled out and resuscitated on the shore. Both people were transported on Wednesday by helicopter to hospitals from the beach in Jantar (Pomeranian Voivodeship).

The press officer of the police in Nowy Dwór Gdański, staff sergeant Karolina Figiel informed that a 32-year-old man died in the hospital, who was pulled out of the water on Wednesday. She added that there was a second, 36-year-old man in a serious condition in the hospital.

The red flag

On Wednesday, after the search and rescue operation was completed, the police announced that sunbathers who entered the water after 13 and formed a chain of life in search of a drowning person, they may have been misled by someone and there may be no one in the water.
